(Tuesday, November 20, 2007) John Paul II rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Parish Episcopal Panthers. Parish got the game's first tally in the 12th minute when they floated the ball over the head of freshman goalkeeper Bob Williams. In the 43rd minute, junior Milan Sljvich tied the score at 1. Sljvich took a pass from senior Erik Garciamendez and floated the ball over the Parish keeper's head. Sljvich scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute when he redirected a shot on goal from Garciamendez. In the 75th minute, junior sweeper John Kadane seemingly scored on an incredible diving header, but was called offsides. In the game's 80th minute, Sljvich barely missed the first hat trick in Cardinal soccer history, when he hit the cross bar. John Paul, which is 5-1-1 on the season, returns to district play after the thanksgiving holiday; the cardinals will play Fort Worth Nolan next Tuesday.

(Friday, November 16, 2007)  The Fort Worth Country Day handed John Paul its first defeat of the season on Friday. The cardinals got the game's first tally in the 19th minute on a by junior Brian Rose goal assisted by freshman Kyle Wei. Three minutes later Country Day tied the score on a Chase Caraway goal assisted by Thomas Cunningham. In the 2nd half, a misplayed corner kick by the cardinals led to a junior Matt Florance box foul. Cunningham knocked home the resulting penalty kick, putting the Falcons ahead to stay. The loss drops the cardinals to 4-1-1 on the season. They will play next Tuesday at Parish Episocopal.

(Wednesday, November 14, 2007) The Cisterican Prep Hawks fought the John Paul II Cardinals to a tie on Wednesday evening. Cistercian opened the scoring in the 9th minutes which a set piece goal past Cardinals junior goalkeeper Blake Moorehead. John Paul tied the game in the 25th minute when sophomore Danny Gonzalez rocketed a 24 yard shot on a free kick. At the end of the first half, the Cardinals seemingly scored its third goal when Junior Milan Sljvich knocked in a rebound off a free kick. The officials disallowed the goal based on a contentious offside call. John Paul scored the goal in the 51st minute on a Gonzalez cross which was netted by Junior Nick Roehll.Cisterican tied the game on a penalty kick following a foul in the box by sophomore Gerald Macias. The cardinals are 4-0-1 on the season and play again on Friday at Fort Worth Country Day.

(Thursday, November 8, 2007) The cardinals dominated the Prestonwood Christian Lions on Thursday evening, scoring four times on 29 shots. The Cardinals opened the scoring in the 15th minute when junior Paul Fletcher dribbled from right corner to baseline before passing to senior co-captain Erik Garciamendez who two-timed a shot past the keeper. The Lions' best scoring chance came when Blake Wise earned a penalty kick after being tackled in the box by junior Gabe Herrera. Cardinals junior goalkeeper Blake Moorehead dove left on the kick and came up with an oustanding save to deny Prestonwood. The cardinals second score came off sophomore Danny Gonzalez's corner kick which was flicked by sophomore Hudson Smith to junior Nick Roehll who punched it in. Junior Matt Florance closed out scoring in the first half by kicking in a rebounded Smith shot. Junior co-captain Brian Rose scored the game's only second period goal on a give-and-go with Herrera. Moorehead and fellow junior Charlie Ferris combined in goal for the shutout. The cardinals are 4-0-0 on the season and will play at Cistercian next Wednesday.
